Historians and archivists sort evidence into three piles. PRIMARY: the record itself, created by the event — a vote tally, a document, a recording. SECONDARY: someone's account or analysis of the record. NO SOURCE: a claim with no traceable origin at all. Sort each card. The skill is always the same move: go one step upstream.
