Sort each statement. A checkable fact can be confirmed or refuted by a named source. An opinion or unsourced claim cannot — either because it's a value judgment, or because nobody has said where it came from. Neither category means 'wrong.' Opinions are legitimate. They just aren't evidence.

The federal minimum wage for covered nonexempt employees is $7.25 per hour.

The point

One habit carries almost all the value: before you repeat something, ask what would prove it wrong. If nothing could, it isn't a fact — and you can still agree with it, as long as you know which one you're holding.
